What's at the Co-op this week?

Oh so lovely to see the sun this week!  Soak up that Vitamin D, not to mention just lifting our spirits - despite the cold!

10% MEMBER DISCOUNT ON Milk, yogurt, frozen veggies and flours (including gluten free)

Haas Avocados came in and look much better compared to last delivery.

NEW Produce:

  • Snow Peas - these are the stir fry flat variety (I always get confused on snow peas, snap peas, and shell peas. Snow peas are the flat stir fry edible ones, snow peas are fully edible but plumper AND snappier. Shell peas are the ones you just eat the peas not the pods).  Good source of Vitamin C, Iron and manganese. Can't WAIT to stir fry! (packed in 1/4 lb - $2.10; and 1/2 lb $4.10 bags)
  • Jonagold apples - nicely sweet
  • Minneola Tangelos - So what the HECK are these?  I had to look them up.  Nicknamed “The Honeybell” because of its bell shape, the Minneola tangelo is a cross between a tangerine and a grapefruit.  Sweet, juicey and easy to peel!  Very good!
  • zucchini - these are oh so CUTE! Smaller size, and a nice treat this time of year. These would be great in stir fry or sauteed in some coconut oil, a little seasoning and sesame seeds. I wonder if you can roast these? Hmmmm...
  • Russian Banana Fingerling Potatoes in 1.5 lb bags. Very nice!

PRODUCE (in addition to above):

  • GREENS: leaf lettuce - green and red butter, red kale, romaine, savoy spinach, endive, red and green cabbage, Geoff's Chop-hopefully I'll make this up later today (Geoff out of commission rest of this week- good thoughts for him). (price drop with kale and romaine in particular!)
  • Fruit:  bananas, Red d'Anjou pears, Granny Smith apples, navel oranges, valencia oranges, ruby grapefruit, lemons, grape tomatoes
  • Roots:  carrots, baby carrots, onions, potatoes, red beets, parsnips, garlic, shallots, radishes
  • Of course: squash & mushrooms

GROCERY:
More LaPerla flour tortillas -8" size rather than 10" this time. I just learned you can make a super quick and easy pizza using these flour totillas making for a lighter crust (425 degree oven - pop the tortilla in flat on pan or baking stone for 4 min, remove it and add your sauce-we have a great pizza sauce -  and toppings and cheese, pop it back in for another 4 minutes and voila! It's done and oh so good.  I added the grape tomatoes-sliced, mushrooms, peppers, and chopped up breakfast link sausages, along with mozzarella & parmesan cheese). Quick and EASY! Loved it!

NEW:

  • sun-dried tomatoes (jar) and roasted red peppers (jar)
  • Zante Currants - which I learned are actually raisins from small black Corinth grapes. Interesting story about these but I won't go into it.

DAIRY:

  • We've added lactose free milk for those of you who've asked for it.
  • Kalona 2% to go along with the whole milk option, Non-homogenized as we can only get homogenized in gallon form and y'all just seem to drink less milk these days. I get it!
  • Good selection of cheese. I've been told repeatedly how good the Blue Cheese is that we carry.

FROZEN:

  • fruits and veggies
  • breads (gluten free options too)
  • meats (see below)
  • some of the best gluten free sweet treats I've tasted - brownies and lemon bars by Down in the Valley Bakery (MN company)
  • Alden organic ice cream.Wwe've added Strawberry... dreamy! just in time for Valentine's Day!

FRESH BREAD & BAGELS from Positively 3rd St Bakery (Duluth) - arrives Friday mid-day.

MEAT:

  • Baca Beef - more ground beef, few T-bones, some sirloins, roasts
  • Fox Farm Pork - ham, ground pork, roasts, chops, some breakfast links left (next delivery is Feb 19 and we'll have more bacon, links, chops)
  • Ferndale Market - whole turkey (we've ordered more smoked turkey breast and that will be in next week. great for sandwiches).
